In our first session I learned some exercises to strengthen my muscles, stretches to keep my abdominal muscles and ligaments limber, and techniques to deal with my urgency and frequency. Starting physical therapy now is good because she is able to feel around inside and break up any new scar tissue before it has a chance to do much damage, loosen any areas where my fascia is pulling (the fascia is a type of connective tissue that Dr. Arrington cut through during surgery), and ensure my scars don't start adhering to underlying structures (fortunately they are moving freely as of now).
In short, almost everything I should be doing can be accomplished through yoga, so I will be doing a lot more of that! I think it'll help me follow MaryJane's instructions, increase my overall flexibility and strength (which will make sex more comfortable), allow me to sleep better, and make me healthier in general. It's a win-win.
My other two updates for this week have to do with supplements and tape. As far as supplements go, I purchased some pumpkin seed oil which apparently helps with urinary health and lessens urgency and frequency. I will see if it helps as soon as it arrives from Amazon.
As far as tape goes, I gave up with the butterfly closures weeks ago, but I did finally find some new tape for sensitive skin. I don't know if it's actually helping provide strength to my scars, but it hasn't been irritating at all. My physical therapy stretches might negate this, but we'll see if it can help my scars from spreading wider!
