Recovery: Week 5 (Aug 17–24)

This week I had some big things happen. I finally started wearing more of my normal wardrobe and made it a full week wearing my LDS garments again. I think putting them back on has helped me heal a little faster, first because of the blessings associated with them, but second because they're tighter, they compress my stomach and have helped push out extra fluid. They aren't always comfortable and I readjust them frequently (especially after eating), but I'm able to wear them again!

August 19: My swelling has gone down so much!

Left incision. It's starting to look more healed and less dry and raw

Right incisions. These ones are really starting to widen.

I also noticed that the vitex I started taking last week has been helping. My bleeding has pretty much stopped and so I wish I started taking that months ago. In total, the depo shot made me bleed for about 12 or 13 weeks straight, so I'm glad to no longer be losing blood!

The vitex has been helping a lot!
I'm also able to lay on both sides of my body and on my stomach without pain, I'm hurting less when I get squeezed, and eating regular-sized meals again. I also started wearing a seat belt without using anything to cushion my stomach, and as long as I (or whoever is driving) make gentle stops I don't have any pain. I probably could've done that earlier, but I was afraid to try until I forgot to bring a cushion one day. However, despite feeling better overall I've had a setback in terms of sleep quality. While I'm now sleeping longer stretches than I was several weeks ago, I'm not getting restful sleep so I'm always tired. Maybe this is just another "healing spurt" if such a thing exists.

As far as scar management goes I'm now combining my butterfly closures with a gel silicone treatment underneath. I'm going to try to stop the incisions from widening and help improve the color and texture while they're fresh. We'll see over the next few weeks how well this works.

Since my acne has improved since surgery I've been trying to give my skin an extra boost. I think nothing ever helped before since my hormones were so out of whack, but now all of the sudden taking a multivitamin and moisturizing my skin with a vitamin A/C/D/E oil has been working like magic.

My multivitamin. It has EVERYTHING in it!

**TMI sex update**
This week my husband and I also attempted sex for the first time since my surgery. I'd been using my dilators for several days, taking it slow, and thought Sunday (about 4.5 weeks after surgery) would be a good day to try. In short, sex still doesn't feel good, and I'm still tight from not being fully stretched out, but the sharp pains I had inside before surgery are gone. This isn't the result I was hoping for, but it is improvement and I'm chalking this up to me still being in recovery mode and not having had intercourse for 4 or so months.
