Recovery: Week 6 (Aug 24–31)

This week wasn't particularly eventful in terms of recovery, though I'm still seeing improvements. I'm feeling good overall and noticing the lingering soreness around my incisions getting less and less. I have no problem wearing my old clothes and can fit into them all again (the swelling made some items too tight, but the swelling is definitely going down), and I'm feeling more of a desire to get back into exercise.

August 24: Looking pretty good except for the irritation from my butterfly closures.

The biggest things I noticed were in regards to my scars. My skin is so sensitive and I've had a problem with the butterfly closures tearing my skin and causing blisters. The left butterfly closure doesn't bother me (maybe I don't move as much on that side?) so I've kept it on. It's both sad and interesting to see how wide my right scars are compared to my left scar. Since I can't wear the closures all the time I've been wearing silicone sheets instead of the gel to see if that will help soften and fade the scars while they're widening. Not sure if the sheets are more effective than gel, but they're easier to apply so I like them better. I just can't use the sheets in conjunction with butterfly closures.

August 26: This is what my butterfly closures look like

The aftermath of wearing butterfly closures for so long. You can see my little blister :(

Silicone sheets. I prefer these to the gel.

Close up of the silicone gel. It's the shiny stuff around my incisions.

I also went to see a urologist and his hunch is that I don't have interstitial cystitis (IC), but rather overactive bladder (OAB). He prescribed some medication (Myrbetriq), talked about some kegel exercises, and I'll go back in two weeks to talk about my progress. Honestly, I'd much rather have OAB since it's not a lifelong problem and it isn't painful, unlike IC. We'll see how things go!
